Day 0 – aka Retirement Day

The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and the waves are crashing, but most importantly… The champagne is chilling!!! Today is the day! The day one dreams about for years, the day one thinks will never get here and now that it is here… Well, what’s new? Sue kept looking at me this morning saying “you don’t look any different”, then poking me and saying “You don’t feel any different.”. And to be honest with myself, I don’t! I don’t look, nor feel, that much different than I did last year, or the year before!
Maybe I just need a gold watch to have it all sink in. In the meantime, I’ll just keep planning the permanent picnic approach to this retirement stuff and see where it takes us; and whether it is a B&B in Coupeville or wandering the coastlines while out cruising on Escapade, we’ll still be living the dream! Just not the Boeing 787 one!

To quote Mark Twain…
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

And so, at the ripe old age of 56 years, 7 months, and 10 days; I’m willing to unshackle the bowlines and go explore, dream, and discover!

PS somebody send me a gold watch so I know for sure I have retired!

  3. Hoping All People Perfect Your Official Retirement Day Marty….I’ve been reading along and it all looks/sounds like fun. Years ago, throughtout the ’70s, I spent a lot of time on different Caribbean Islands and the pictures/descriptions you and Sue are posting give me strong vicarious pleasures and memories of that time…sounds, sights, smells, skin sensations, temperatures/humidiities. Though it’s Central America, it’s sure close enough…

All the best to you both in 2012….looking forward to seeing you.

  4. There once was a young hobbit for hire,
Who found his dream job in the Shire,
    But the dream he outgrew,
For he had too much to do,
So he sailed away to the magical land of Retire.

Happy Retirement to my darling Husband! I have no doubt that this next chapter in our lives will be full of wonderful escapades. Thank you for sharing your life with me!
